External Focus Photography is owned and operated by Michelle C. Thomas, who resides with her family in Waynesville, NC. Her love of photography began at the young age of 7, when she first stumbled across her mother’s Vivitar point and shoot 110 format camera. Despite several scoldings, Michelle found it too hard to resist looking through that little rectangle and capturing the world around her exactly as she saw fit. Today, nearly 30 years later, she still has the same enthusiasm and wonder of looking through the camera lens and capturing the beauty of Western North Carolina. Michelle was a student of Joe Billera for 3 years, who assisted the world famous photographer, Richard Avedon, and is also a professor of photography at a private school in Pennsylvania for 30 years. Michelle has worked commercially with local real estate agents on brochures and websites, and also internationally with Sony for a music cd. Michelle has won several awards for her photography including first through third placements, and Judge’s Choice.
